The weather outside has been frightful! Ever since Christmas Day! We have had these fairly seasonal cold snaps, and then it warms up, and rains.... rain, freezing rain, and sleet. At least one major occurrence each week.
I have always lived in the midwest, so you would think I would be used to winters. But, after so many years of city, then town life, this country life is another thing entirely. The roads get maintained so much more slowly. It still truly amazes me how long it takes for even the county roads to get cleared.
I am a believer in staying home if you don't need to be out on the roads, so the trucks can do their jobs. I think during the ice storms, I may not be alone in that practice. The days when I have still had to go to work, I am the only car out there, which is creepy in it's own way. I am hoping with the big storm on the way for tomorrow, we might get to stay home?!
On to some winter farm photo's....
This first picture was earlier in the season, when we had a nice covering of snow.
You know it's exciting to get sand on the road when I text a picture of the sand to my husband!
We have so much ice everywhere, but it's hard to capture in a photo. Except for here by the chicken coop. Believe me, the ladies are not impressed. They will only leave the coop if we leave the big "people" door open, and the temperature meets with their approval.
The snow depth out in the fields is decreasing.
Just remember, if you end up out in the ice, walk like a penguin!
Be safe out there!
You are luck you live in an area that gets snow!! I live in Central Cali and we get like.. one week of foggy winter! - http://www.domesticgeekgirl.com
ReplyDeleteIronic that you mention foggy, that is what we have moved into now!
DeleteThanks so much for stopping by :)
Gosh..that looks ice cold! My husband, who always complains that we don't get enough snow, would love to live there!
ReplyDeleteIt is cold, Angie! But, it is pretty too :)
DeleteWow! Lots of ice! We've had a strange Winter with a lot of extreme temperatures- last Monday was 3 degrees but by Wednesday it was 55 degrees! We have a lot of ice too! I'm dreaming of harvest!!!
ReplyDeleteIsn't it crazy how unpredictable it has been? We were planning to go to the ice castle place in Wisconsin, but now they have had to close due to all the melting! They are hoping to reopen, but I guess we will have to wait and see.
DeleteI think this winter has been the least amount of snow I've had since I moved to Kentucky. And I'm not complaining! The county does a great job of keeping the highways clear but the back roads? Forget about it! I definitely stay off the roads as this Oregonian is a terrible winter driver! 😜
ReplyDeleteI hope you guys get some melting action soon so you can get out of the house! Have a great week Kris!
As strange as it is, we are getting melting now. It warmed up, and it looks like we have quite a bit of rain, and high 30's coming our way. You just never know what's next :)
DeleteHave a great week too, Jessica!
Hello,
ReplyDeleteI agree, it is better to stay off the roads. Let the County Crews do the job they need.
I also think we have had the strangest Winter weather the last two years. It makes no sense. We had -20 last week and a high of 40 today!!! I can not understand it and I am sure the wild animals and birds must go from freezing to spring fever.
Happy you are safe.
Love, Carla
I never thought about that Carla, but I bet it is hard on the wildlife, and birds.
DeleteIt certainly is strange weather. Are the lakes by you safe for ice fishing?
We have had a couple dustings of snow, a scary ice storm and the scare of an ice storm that didn't amount to much locally. I'm ready to be done with winter! At least your snow is gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it a strange winter? The snow is pretty, and I will take it any day before the ice!
