And So The Garden Grows

Yum
Oh my, but the garden is a challenge this year! We went from the chickens eating off the plants, to the freezing temperatures, to rain almost daily! Then... the tiller started acting up, so that means more hand weeding and working the hoe! But, all that work has to wait until it's dry enough to get in the garden.

We finally have things just about under control again.

With Sunday dinner, we finally were able to enjoy a garden fresh salad!
Lettuce, radish, and onion! YUM!

Just look at all those onions! All one hundred of them!

We even had our first two pea pods. One for me, one for him!

Everything in the cabbage family is growing right along.

And, our pride and joy... Strawberries!
Considering we only planted 25 plants last year, we are thrilled with the berries we are enjoying so far!

Look at the size of that strawberry!

Now, it's time to start making some strawberry treats. What's your favorite strawberry recipe?

  2. Ha a pea pod each! That is fun and I am glad you are getting to harvest after such a rough start! Those berries look amazing! Our strawberry harvest is usually really good, but I think the squirrels are getting more than their fair share this year. Between that and the bird feeder we have some fat squirrels!

  4. Those strawberries! Wow! Mine just started blossoming, I'm so excited for the fruit! It's been a challenging season for me too, this weather! I've noticed my tomatoes look amazing now that we haven't had rain for 4 days. That's it, 4 days. Crazy how they can turn around. I think I'm going to try growing peas next year, I remember loving those straight out of my mom's garden when I was a kid. The garden is looking good Kris! :-)

    1. I think you may have just cleared up a mystery for us. Our tomatoes just don't look happy. They are alive, and nothing really "wrong", just not happy. I never considered all this constant rain, and lack of sun being the problem. We finally had a dry day today, and tomorrow looks dry, so hopefully that will turn them around. Thanks so much for helping!!

    1. They were such a lovely red at the beginning of the season! They are still stunning, but not quite as deep of a red now.
