Sourdough

Yum

Before I knew about the recent baking trend starting, before I new about the sourdough craze, and before yeast and bread shortages were a thing,
I decided I was going to try and learn how to make sourdough during quarantine.

Then I learned, it was a trend.
I wasn't the only that thought this was the perfect time to learn something new and fun.

I made the starter from scratch.  It was touch and go, but I finally got it.
It was all good and bubbly and sour.
While the two loaves of bread I made were OK, they were not outstanding.
And then, I couldn't get the starter to get bubbly again.
I decided I don't need to eat that much bread anyway, so store bought will be just fine for me!

Anyone else venture into sourdough baking?
How did it work for you?

  3. Ha! I am sad to report my sourdough starter lived several years but perished before the pandemic. I was tempted to start a new one but couldn't justify the commitment right now 🤪

  4. Sorry to hear that your starter did not work out. Mine would not work either when I tried a few times a few years ago and then I found one on the internet through the Sourdough Home site called Carl Griffith's 1847 Oregon Trail starter. It has been on my counter and in the fridge for years now. It is just not worth the wasted flour trying to start one from scratch. This starter will reward you with excellent baking!

    1. Heidi, Thank you so much for sharing this info! I've looked into it, and it sounds like Carl is having a bit of a time keeping up with the demand right now as well, but I will definitely be trying to order this in the next couple months. Thanks again!

  5. You are a trend-setter at heart. I made a loaf during the lockdown, it would have been rude not to, but it wasn't sourdough. I played it safe and went with dry yeast.
