Oh No They Didn't.....

Yum
Remember these glorious plants I showed you last week?
Well, last Thursday we transplanted them into the garden! Exciting, right?

Remember these beautiful free ranging chickens I shared a couple weeks ago?

Well, this is what those beautiful chickens did to our transplanted veggies, on Friday.

If you look close you can see the little bit they left behind.

So, until further notice these bad chickens will not be free ranging!

The free ranging party is over until we decide what to do since the 8 open acres of grass and bugs aren't sufficient.
Until the next garden update....

  2. Oh Noooooooooooo!!!!!!! Those beautiful chickens were hungry! I'm so sorry my friend! At least they're well fed? Very frustrating for certain. How did Truckin Man take it after all his tender love and care? 😞

    1. Truckin' Man didn't take it well at all. I think the blog post, and the comments coming in are helping him to find the humor in it, but he was not a happy gardener or chicken farmer the day it happened!

  3. We fence our garden in to keep the "biological terrorists (rabbits, deer) out.

    1. We are considering fencing, but trying to figure out the logistics of doing it as we edge right up to a crop field.

  4. You need a "Like" button on this one, Kris. I know it isn't funny at the moment, but it was a delight to read. One of the guys I work with had a goat and it ate all his tomato plants one spring. He doesn't have a goat any longer. :-)

    Wishes for tasty dishes,
    Linda

    1. Lol.. I am glad you enjoyed the story :) I would suppose that goat was sent down the road to a knew home after munching on all the tomato plants!

  5. Oh, my, too funny! I agree with Lita; it might not be funny now but later it will be. I planted a row of tomato plants once after my husband said rabbits wouldn't eat tomatoes. They mowed them down like little buzz saws!

    1. Darn rabbits!! I am finding the humor in the situation... Much more than my husband is :)

  6. Oh no! That isn't funny and yet it is. Hope the plants will come out of it.

  7. ACK! I would be furious! The stray dogs we used to have around our house were digging in my newly planted garden and they got an earful! And chickens? We all know they don't listen like dogs :-) Those ornery birds!

    1. We did try yelling at them like you would a dog, but you get an even more confused look than a dog would give you!

    1. Oh no Angie. Hard to be mad at a cat, but those herbs are yours!

  9. Too funny! Sorry, but I had to laugh. Those are going to be some healthy chickens, though. Love your photos. Who knew chickens were so photogenic!

    1. Thanks, Jean! That is another positive way to look at what has happened... They are healthy for eating our greens!

  11. those little scamps! we didn't even risk planting things within digging distance of our dog because we know they'd have no chance at lasting!

  12. Smart of you! Hoping our dog doesn't have digging issues, or we just might hang it up for this year!

  13. Oh no! Those bad girls! Will the little bit they left grow back? It reminds me of the spring I left lemon tree with 50 new buds on the deck without netting. The birds had a great lunch that day! Live and learn! :-)
